Career meets Sustainability: Pioneering Industry Transformation

Join us on a journey towards a sustainable future!

In today's rapidly evolving landscape, the intersection of career aspirations and sustainability demands has become increasingly pronounced. As industries around the world undergo a profound transformation driven by digitalization, there is a unique opportunity for individuals to drive change while advancing their professional development.

One way to achieve this is to integrate digitalization efforts with sustainability concepts. We already see this integration in various initiatives such as in energy-efficient monitoring systems, new battery materials or more resource-efficient production methods through advanced algorithms. Today, we are exploring further opportunities that digitalization offers for sustainable product development, with experts from KIT and industry sharing their insights.

Martina Waldner, Senior Consultant at the HECTOR School (KIT), will open the online info session with a short speech on the importance of technological progress for a sustainable future and show how a sustainable transfer of knowledge to companies can take place.

Leveraging his background in sustainable industrial Engineering and his executive education at HECTOR School in Information Systems Engineering & Management Leo Flögel is bringing together Technology, Business and Sustainability. He will be outlining his journey from a student at HECTOR School, working as technology consultant to now focusing on advising clients on their sustainable transformation as a Senior Strategy Consultant at IBM Consulting.

Andreas Fritsch, Research and Innovation Expert (KIT) focuses on Sustainable Business Process Management. In order to effectively manage and improve the environmental and social sustainability of a company, sustainability data needs to be aggregated, analyzed and made available for decision takers. We explore how this can be achieved by integrating concepts from sustainability analysis, computer science and business process management.

In Dr. Stephanie Metzner's speech, she will discuss how IBM is approaching the hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) market with a platform-centric approach that emphasizes client value through integrated technology and business expertise. She will address how IBM is leveraging data, IT, industry knowledge and a robust ecosystem of partners to support clients' digital transformation and improve client and employee engagement. The session will highlight IBM's strong commitment to sustainability, including significant reductions in operational greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and efforts to help organizations integrate AI to achieve both profit and sustainability goals. It will be discussed IBM's compliance with the Energy Efficiency Act and how IBM's environmental, social and governance (ESG) expertise helps clients manage and exceed sustainable business practices. Finally, she will also discuss career opportunities and what excellent job positions can be found in the sustainability field.

Sascha Ott, Managing Director Institute of Product Engineering (KIT) holds his presentation on the implementation of sustainability aspects in the development of new services and products. He will also talk about the Importance of system engineering and visualization in the metaverse for future-proof, sustainable and transformative technologies and systems.
